Our Policy
The Tudorville Allotment Association has a duty to comply with all relevant UK legislation covering Health & Safety and will aim to do so. More simply, we are committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for all plot holders, visitors to our sites and anyone affected by the actions of our members working their plots.
The Association has no power to make members adhere to this policy but members who fail to do so risk injury to themselves, other allotment users and visitors. Members failing to follow our policy, rules and guidelines may have their tenancy terminated.
The Committee
- H&S will be a standing agenda item at all committee meetings.
- We will prepare a Risk Assessment document which will be reviewed at least annually.
- We will make members aware of all H&S guidance including this policy and the Risk Assessment. They will be displayed on notice boards, given to new plot holders and updates will be circulated to members.
- We will keep a first aid kit in the communal sheds and emergency contact details will be displayed on notice boards.
- We will conduct a H&S site inspection at least annually. We will address issues affecting the site and members will be advised of issues affecting their plot.
Plot Holders
- Whilst the committee takes the lead on H&S issues, all members should be alert to hazards and threats and report them. We are dependent on the support of all plot holders with them exercising their duty of care to themselves and to others.
- It is every member’s responsibility to work safely on the allotments, to ensure that their plot is free from hazard and to comply with our guidance.
- Any accidents, incidents or near misses should be reported to a committee member so that any necessary action can be taken.
- All children must always be accompanied and supervised on site by an adult member.
- Members using any of our site power tools must ensure that they are confident in their safe handling and that they are authorised to used them. Instructions for the tools are in the communal sheds.
- We publish a list of recommended Personal Protection Equipment and members are encouraged to use appropriate PPE when working on our sites.
Changes to this Policy
This policy will be reviewed at least annually, but changes can be approved by members at the AGM or by the committee.
